The good doctor and his strange story came to mind recently with accounts of many soldiers coming back from service with crippling symptoms of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). What’s not as well known is that PTSD can happen to service personnel who have never even seen combat. Military physicians who treat the wounded are a prime example of who can get this "secondary" PTSD, sometimes called "vicarious trauma" or "compassion fatigue."
